The launch of the Africa Children’s Development Trust (ACDT) in 2007 is the culmination of a vision I had several years ago. It was a vision that would hopefully lead me to working regularly with people & especially children in underdeveloped countries.I completed my first volunteer trip to Romania in 2003, but deep down I knew my heart was drawn to Africa. Since then in between the running of a busy clinic & continual study, my thoughts have been in overdrive as I began to lay the foundations of the ACDT.A child has a right to a future & every child should have the opportunity to reach their potential & yet of course we know in reality this is not the case.
I was one of the lucky ones, born in a country where I had access to food, water, education & a health system.I cannot apologise for being born into a developed country but what I can do is use the opportunities that I have had to now help those who have not had such opportunities. I was privileged in 2007 to spend 2 ½ months in Africa completing a volunteer project & treating many of the children I met both in urban & rural areas. I was also able to complete the research I needed to launch the ACDT. I met the most amazing people who live in abject poverty, who live in a way many of us could not imagine exists. I was humbled by the I fortunately realised a long time ago that my childhood ambition of a solo mission to save the world was really not achievable, but meeting those people confirmed to me that I have the ability & the tools to try & make a difference to some of their lives.
The future of the ACDT is reliant on the help, support & donations of those who believe in what I am doing & what I want to achieve, and who also want to contribute to improving someone’s life. These countries have often been categorised as third world, when really we are one very unbalanced world & in that world the innocent should not have to suffer. I am excited about what the future holds for the children whose lives will pass through the ACDT. To give a helping hand to enable a child to reach their mental & physical potential, a chance to be protected from the often fatal effects of malaria & the chance to receive that one basic human right, a clean glass of water. Thank you for reading this & for looking at this website & thank you in advance for any help & support you can give. Kind regards Nikki Collinson BSc Hons (Chiro) MMCA IVCA GCC Reg 02365 |

The launch of the
way they welcomed me & by their strength of spirit & by the courage they show on a daily basis in order to survive, when everything around them is against them.
