Chiropractic Programme

The term chiropractic translates as ‘done by hand'. The practice of chiropractic dates back to 1895 & has grown substantially over the years to become the third biggest medical profession in the UK.

Chiropractic is a technique used to improve the function of the nervous system. When the nervous system is not functioning at its optimum it can show itself in many ways for example pain, a reduced immune system & internal organ dysfunction.

Children, contrary to belief are not little adults. They experience different health problems to adults & so must be assessed accordingly. Children born into underdeveloped countries will often experience different problems to those in developed countries, with many factors, including the effects of poverty, playing a major part in the child’s physical, mental & social development. In the UK, chiropractic is widely available for children from babies to teenagers. Children in underdeveloped countries have limited access to all aspects of medical care, things that we often take for granted.Yet it is these children who often face the biggest challenges to their physical, mental & social development.

As part of the chiropractic treatment, a child receives a neurological assessment & based on those findings receives chiropractic ‘adjustments’ which are extremely gentle to receive.

Many of the children in Africa are malnourished, and if they do have access to regular food, are lacking vital nutrients. The basis of their food is often rice, nshima (maize) or matoke (steamed green bananas). Many do not have access to clean water & it is common for children to have to carry heavy water containers long distances from bore holes or streams. These containers are often far too heavy for the child that has to carry it. It is also normal & expected for these children to work in the fields.

All of these scenarios take their toll on a child’s body & collectively will inhibit a child’s overall development into strong healthy adults & make them more vulnerable to disease.

Giving a child in an underdeveloped country access to regular chiropractic care & the education to maintain the positive benefits of the treatment is making a contribution to that child’s overall development.
